Long Synopsis
The film begins with drawn brush strokes and a painting created on a canvas. It revolves around an English aristocratic family in the period 1962-1972 in Sri Lanka after the British colonial rule. There is a crisis that has arisen over the rights of a small group of Englishmen who jointly controlled the lands. Sarah is the youngest member of the Wood family, who intervenes in her parents’ family conflicts and suffers as a child. When Sarah was nine years old, Sarah’s mother, Christiana, handed over to her father, Mr. Wood. Christiana kills herself. That shocks Sarah. She suspects her mother’s death to be murder. Sarah strongly suspects that Miller, who lives in the Wood house, is her mother’s killer.
Growing up with intractable supernatural problems, Sarah hated Miller from an early age. Sarah falls in love with a young man named Kenneth, a member of an elite family who lives as a free thinker away from the elite family, who looks at the world with a heart full of human compassion. As Sarah’s love grows, Kenneth suddenly disappears. Sarah is shocked by the incident. After that, at Mr. Wood’s strong request, Sarah, who is helpless, has to marry Miller, who is suspected of being her mother’s murderer.
When Sarah turns twenty-one, she is surprised by a gift and a revelation from her mother. Sarah owns a large property including 1531 acres of land and a tea factory. All power and ownership of the Wood-Lawson Plantation Company passes to Sarah. Kenneth’s humanistic philosophical thinking had an influence on Sarah’s mind, which inspired Sarah to stand up for people.
Sarah works to distribute her lands to people who are protesting for land rights. How will Sarah’s marriage, who has conflicts with Miller and leads a bitter marriage, end? What kind of life will she lead with Miller, his mother’s killer? At the protest, Kenneth returns to look for Sarah. That day he is arrested by the police. Did Kenneth put Miller in danger?
The entire story of the film unfolds based on the mood of the painter of the painting of three roses on a canvas. The character of Kenneth represents the artist who paints the painting. “Roses on Canvas” The end of this movie means that there is an unresolved love story in every heart. At every intersection point in the story, the painting gradually emerges from time to time on the canvas.
