There is a crisis that has arisen over the rights of a small group of Englishmen who jointly controlled the lands. Sarah is the youngest member of the Wood family, who intervenes in her parents’ family conflicts and suffers as a child. When Sarah was nine years old, Sarah’s mother, Christiana, handed over to her father, Mr. Wood. Christiana kills herself. That shocks Sarah. She suspects her mother’s death to be murder.
